Often, it is useful to roll up metrics such as Units On Hand and Weeks of Supply by retailer DC. This view provides a summary of sections of a retailer's supply chain, and helps to answer the question: "How many of product X should the retailer allocate to DC Y, and on what date?".
Configuring the DC Rollup:
The best way to get metrics to "roll up" by DC is to use the "Distribution Center" attribute. Critically, a DC and its downstream stores share the same "Distribution Center" attribute, so metrics like UoH and WoS will roll up under that attribute. Example:
Location | Location Attribute: Distribution Center | Location Attribute: Location Number | Location Attribute: Location Type |
Menards Shelby DC | 3439 | 3439 | Distribution Center |
Menards Aberdeen Store | 3439 | 3132 | Store |
All other Menards stores downstream of the Shelby DC | 3439 | Unique location numbers | Store |
Here's what the above table looks like on the Location Master page:
Interpretation of Metrics:
By using the DC attribute, we can view all stores downstream of a DC, combined with data for that DC. In the bottom row below, the DC and the downstream stores have a total of 500 units on hand for the product, and the stores have 1500 units of sell-through, for a total WoS of 3.45:
Sounds like DC 4567 should be replenished!
